Heroscape Review: Valkrill's Legion

In the latest and last Heroscape set comes our second review of the pack, Valkrill's Legion from the Dungeons and Dragons Wave 3 Set titled Moltenclaw's Invasion. This pack comes with 2 squads, 1 uncommon hero, and 1 treasure glyph.

Mezzodemon Warmongers

Mezzodemon Warmongers cost 65 points for 2 ferocious demons. This squad is hard to kill because their ability Exoskeleton adds a Copper Marker to its army card for each Mezzodemon Warmonger in your army! So if you have 2 squads of Warmongers then each card comes with 4 copper markers. When a Warmonger defends a normal attack it may remove a copper marker to ignore all inflicting wounds! This is a very good defensive ability for a squad.

Their other ability, Poison Cloud adds 1 attack value when a Warmonger attacks a common figure. This can be useful against other squads or the array of common heroes that have been introduced through Heroscape Dungeons and Dragons.

Overall, Mezzodemon Warmongers is a great squad. They have good base stats and 2 great defensive and offensive abilities. Plus they work well with multiple squads. That is why Mezzodemon Warmongers deserves a figure rating of an A.

Death Knights of Valkrill

Death Knights of Valkrill is one of my favorite squads. At 60 points they have solid base stats and 2 great abilities. Soul Weapons forces any figure to subtract 2 defense shields when defending against a Death Knight. This is an amazing ability especially for a low costing squad!

Their other ability, Unholy Bonding lets you choose a Relentless Hero you control and take a free turn with it before you complete your Death Knights' turn. There are a lot of great Relentless Heroes so this ability will work very well with your army's theme.

Overall, Death Knights of Valkrill is a great squad with some amazing abilities. Their base stats are solid and their abilities makes their 60 point cost well worth its price. You should really play with these guys because I have an really liked them. Death Knights of Valkrill is solid and deserves a figure rating of an A.

Ogre Pulverizer

Ogre Pulverizer may not be as powerful as the previous 2 squads I mentioned but for 100 points you get a nice uncommon hero. At a base attack of 4, Double Attack will get through for some damage. After attacking normally you may make 1 additional normal attack. But his other ability, Lumbering Bully lets any excess shields rolled by a defending figure count as unblockable hits to the ogre! So Double Attack may not be as good against a defensive figure!

Overall, I don't like Ogre Pulverizer. His bad ability negates his good ability so you get a below average figure for 100 points. That is not good. If only Ogre Pulverizer had better stats and not Lumbering Bully I would call Valkrill's Legion the best pack in the game. So that is why Ogre Pulverizer deserves his sad figure rating of a D.

Scarab of Invulnerability

Scarab of Invulnerability is the temporary treaure glyph that comes with the pack. When a hero with the glyph recieves wounds from an attack it may use it to roll a 20-sided die. If rolled on a 1 - 15 the figure reduces 1 wound. If rolled on a 16 or higher then the figure ignores all wounds. This is a good glyph and I really like it especially as assurance against a massive attack. So that is why Scarab of Invulnerability deserves a glyph rating of an A.
